Specialty Surgery – Kevin P. McAbee DVM, DACVS
Dr. McAbee of Spire Veterinary Surgery (SVS) is Mountain Ridge’s board-certified surgical partner. He obtained his DVM from Colorado State University and went on to complete internships at VCA West Los Angeles and Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Jacksonville, FL. From there he was launched into one of the best and most rigorous surgical residencies in the country at The Animal Medical Center in New York City, and since that time has practiced the art of small animal surgery in the Front Range of Colorado for most of his career.
Dr. McAbee has vast experience in all aspects of veterinary surgery including orthopedic, neurologic, and oncologic surgery. He has advanced training in minimally invasive orthopedic surgery such as arthroscopy and has published and lectured nationally on this topic. Dr. McAbee has performed thousands of Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomies (TPLO) to treat canine cranial cruciate ligament deficiency and is also a skilled oncologic (cancer) surgeon. In addition, he is a consultant and instructor for Arthrex Vet Systems and frequently teaches courses and lectures on stifle surgery to both general practitioners and board-certified surgeons around the country.
In 2015, Dr. McAbee founded SVS with the vision of providing the highest quality specialty surgery to dogs and cats while allowing those patients and owners to remain in the care and comfort of their trusted family veterinary practice. He considers himself extremely fortunate to be a veterinarian and strives to treat each patient as he would his own pet.
